Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, have agreed to enhance the India-Italy strategic partnership with focused initiatives, including joint R&D and collaboration on green hydrogen, biofuels, renewables, and energy efficiency.

India and Italy are strengthening their strategic partnership in various sectors including clean energy transition. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni during their meeting at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 18, 2024 have decided to give it further impetus through focused, time-bound initiatives and joint plan of strategic action.

As part of the energy transition initiatives, the two nations will facilitate technology advancements and joint R&D collaborations. They will give further impetus to the Joint Working Group on Renewable Energy to facilitate cooperation in green hydrogen, biofuels, renewables and energy efficiency.

To this effect, the two nations will jointly organise ‘Tech Summits’ to share best practices and experiences, promote knowledge of each other’s industrial eco-systems and facilitate industrial partnerships.

India and Italy will also work together to strengthen the Global Biofuels Alliance and International Solar Alliance. The two nations have also agreed to share information on innovative grid development solutions and regulatory aspects related to renewable energy.

The two nations have also agreed to explore new avenues of cooperation in Industry 4.0, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, critical minerals extraction and refining, involving academia and industries, including SMEs and start-ups of the two countries.

Further, they will foster interaction between start-ups and the relevant innovation ecosystems of the two countries focusing on, inter alia, fintech, edutech, health care, logistics and supply chain, agritech, chip design and green energy.
