India observes National Energy Conservation day with industry push for sustainability

New Delhi: Industry leaders on National Energy Conservation Day emphasized the need for sustainable practices and innovative technologies to address India’s energy challenges and align with global carbon reduction goals. The focus was on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and circular economy solutions to drive impactful change.

Amaan R Kidwai, Area Manager Luxury Hotels (North) & General Manager of ITC Maurya, highlighted the hospitality industry’s commitment to sustainability. “New-age travelers prefer Green Hotels that promote sustainable tourism. ITC Maurya has implemented solar energy solutions and EV stations and earned the LEED Zero Water certification, exemplifying our dedication to net-zero emissions,” he said.

Rajat Verma, Founder and CEO of Lohum Cleantech, discussed innovations in battery recycling. “Lohum’s recycling and repurposing processes reduce energy consumption in battery manufacturing by up to 90%. Our direct recycling process further reduces energy use by 30%, as recognized by the Ministry of Power during last year’s National Energy Conservation Awards,” Verma said.

Simarpreet Singh, Executive Director and CEO of Hartek Group, outlined the group’s contributions to renewable energy. “We have integrated 10 GW of solar energy into the grid, saving over 300 million tonnes of carbon emissions. Through advancements in high-voltage infrastructure and smart grid solutions, we are aligning with India’s renewable energy goals and ensuring a robust transition to a low-carbon economy,” Singh stated.

KA Chowdary, Chief Projects and Operations Officer of EverEnviro Resource Management Pvt. Ltd., emphasized the role of compressed biogas (CBG) in energy transition. “CBG reduces emissions and manages organic waste sustainably. Scaling CBG solutions will strengthen rural economies and create a self-sustaining ecosystem balancing growth with environmental care,” he said.

Gyanesh Chaudhary, CMD of Vikram Solar Limited, highlighted ongoing efforts in energy efficiency. “Projects like Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Viability Gap Funding (VGF), and Pump Storage Projects (PSP) are significant steps. As a sector closely linked to energy, we recognize our role in fostering sustainable development for a resilient planet,” Chaudhary noted.

Sameer Gupta, CMD of Jakson Group, stressed the collective responsibility for energy conservation. “Energy efficiency is essential for achieving India’s net-zero goals. Adopting renewable solutions like Green Hydrogen and Solar Power can significantly reduce carbon footprints,” Gupta said.

Vijay Karia, CMD of Ravin Group, underlined the industrial sector’s role. “As a cable manufacturer, we focus on materials and technology to enhance energy efficiency and support conservation objectives. Let’s make energy conservation a way of life,” Karia urged.

The industry’s unified call for action reflects a broader commitment to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, contributing to India’s long-term sustainability goals.
