AI, Additive Manufacturing To Dominate Tech Advisory Group Meeting
New Delhi, Feb 19 (KNN) The Technology Advisory Group (TAG) held its second meeting under the leadership of Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
The meeting brought together distinguished members from academia, industry, and government to chart a course for strengthening India’s position in advanced manufacturing.
Professor Sood highlighted the recently announced National Manufacturing Mission from the Union Budget 2025, emphasising its role in positioning India as a global manufacturing hub.
He noted that the Empowered Technology Group (ETG) has made significant contributions through its previous discussions on Alternative Battery Technologies, Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS), and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which have led to major national initiatives including the AI mission, Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) MAHA-EV mission, and the CCUS mission.
Dr. Preeti Banzal, Adviser/Scientist ‘G’ at the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, provided context by outlining the ETG’s extensive work since its establishment in February 2020.
The group has conducted 65 meetings, evaluated 122 proposals across 27 ministries, and engaged 153 subject matter experts in advancing science, technology, and innovation initiatives.
The meeting featured comprehensive presentations from leading experts in the field. Dr. Nagahanumaiah, Director, CMTI Bangalore, discussed smart capital goods engineering, while Dr. Gurumurthy from IISc Bengaluru focused on digitalised manufacturing. Dr. Sankhadip Das from MeitY presented insights on additive manufacturing and its alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Additional presentations covered innovative topics such as 3D concrete printing, 4D printing applications in healthcare, and cybersecurity considerations in advanced manufacturing.
Dr. Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary at the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, summarised the key outcomes, emphasising the need for shared infrastructure, workforce development, and coherent policies.
Professor Sood concluded the meeting by underlining the importance of a structured approach to advanced manufacturing as a crucial element in India’s industrial growth strategy and its vision of becoming a robust product nation.
The meeting’s discussions highlighted the necessity for a coordinated national effort to enhance manufacturing capabilities through collaboration between government, industry, and academia, with a particular focus on developing a globally competitive workforce and addressing core technological challenges.
