A new EV force in India: VinFast VF 7 and VF 6 will compete with Mahindra e-SUVs, Harrier EV

Vietnamese carmaker VinFast is set to launch its first two premium electric SUVs in India, the VF 6 and VF 7, before the festive season, directly competing with models from Mahindra and Tata.

Vietnamese carmaker VinFast’s first two models in India – the VF 6 and VF 7 – will be premium electric SUVs, and will compete with Mahindra’s BE 6 and XEV 9e, as well as Tata’s Curvv EV and Harrier EV.

Sharing their technical specifications, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO, VinFast Asia, said that the VF 6 has a 59.6-kWh battery and its motor produces 150 kW power, and the VF 7 has a 70.8-kWh battery and its motor produces 260 kW power. “Their driving range, however, will be announced at the official launch,” Chau said.

The BE 6 and XEV 9e are available in 59-kWh and 79-kWh battery pack options, producing power of up to 210 kW, and claimed driving range of more than 600 km (79 kWh). Ex-showroom prices of the BE 6 start at Rs 18.9 lakh, going up to Rs 26.9 lakh, and those of the XEV 9e are Rs 21.9-30.5 lakh.

The Curvv, on the other hand, comes in two battery pack options – 45-kWh and 55-kWh – producing power of 110 kW and 123 kW, respectively. It’s priced Rs 17.49-21.99 lakh. The Harrier EV will be available in 65-kWh and 75-kWh options, and prices start at Rs 21.49 lakh.

Chau added that both the VF 6 and VF 7 will go on sale ahead of the festive season. “Both are premium electric SUVs, and are a compelling combination of advanced technology, comfort, high safety standards, and suitability for Indian road conditions, making them strong contenders in India’s evolving electric SUV market,” he said. “Both will come with modern connectivity features such as large 12.9-inch entertainment screens, heads-up display (HUD), and over-the-air (OTA) software updates in the Plus variants.”

He added that these models have been designed with Indian consumers in mind. “They have a spacious cabin inspired by aircraft cockpit, dual-tone interiors, and either a panoramic sunroof or full-glass roof, depending on the variant,” Chau said. “Safety is a top priority, and both will get Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, electronic stability control, blind-spot warning, and lane departure warning on Plus variants.”

When asked if these will be made-in-India cars, Chau said that the carmaker is encouraged by the government’s support during the process of establishing manufacturing facility in India. “This provides us with the opportunity to quickly localise our products and maintain competitive pricing,” he said. “We will announce specific information about our manufacturing plans in India at a later date.”

In parallel, VinFast is also shaping a retail and service network. “We are in advanced discussions with prospective dealer and distributor partners across key tier-1 and tier-2 cities to ensure a widespread presence from the outset. We are also developing an omni-channel platform that seamlessly blends physical dealerships with a digital-first experience for bookings, service, and customer support,” he said.

At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in January, VinFast had displayed other models that will likely be launched in India at a later stage, including the VF 3, VF e34, VF 8, and VF 9.
