The Communist Party of India has flayed the AINRC-BJP government for its decision to issue no objection certificates for starting new liquor manufacturing units in Puducherry.
Party secretary A. M. Saleem in a statement on Saturday, said the government has justified the issuance of NOC for starting more liquor manufacturing units on the premise that its decision would bring in more revenue and create job opportunities.
However, there was no rational in the government’s argument of revenue generation and job creation as existing distilleries in Puducherry have not contributed anything towards the development of the Union Territory, he said.
The decision to allow more liquor manufacturing units would only create further social unrest, health problems and a rise in crime rate in the Union Territory, he said. “An efficient government’s priority would be establishing manufacturing industries to augment job opportunities. The government can very well focus on developing a textile park which will help in job creation and revenue generation. The U.T. administration needs to prevail upon the Centre for necessary assistance to establish a textile park,” Mr. Saleem said.
