India is waking up to a deepening sense of grief and reflection after the tragic crash of Air India flight AI-117 in Ahmedabad on June 12.
The incident, which claimed at least 241 lives, is now confirmed to be the country’s worst aviation disaster in two decades. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel shortly after take-off, caused a devastating blaze, intensified by nearby LPG cylinders. Investigations are under way, with forensic teams gathering DNA samples and the National Investigation Agency ruling out foul play.
Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran called it “one of the darkest days” in the Group’s history, pledging transparency and support for victims’ families. In response, aviation authorities have ordered enhanced safety checks across Air India’s Dreamliner fleet.
As the nation grapples with the aftermath, the global news cycle also heated up—with Israel’s strike on Iran raising tensions and oil prices, triggering renewed inflation concerns.
